DY: In Just a Few Words (#1)

Updated: Nov 10, 2020

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

It’s healthy to change careers every 40 or 50 years. So, effective today, I have decided to become a full-time blogger. Not some amateur who pretends to be a blogger, but a professional blogger certified by the International Association of Blogologists. This requires going through a rigorous process to determine one’s cognitive fitness. After all, blogging is an enormous responsibility and the last thing anybody wants is to have some blogger out there who isn’t credible. The cognitive test is similar to what Presidential candidates will probably need to take in the future.

Lots of bloggers like to direct their fire at individuals by name so as to humiliate them in front of their families and peers. Not me. That’s cruel and unkind and we already have too much of that. And, what’s to criticize. This year’s election really just boiled down to a simple choice to determine which candidate’s last incomplete sentence appealed to the most people. I know that’s how I voted.

Close observers of the blogging culture take great pleasure in pointing out that bloggers are generally (perhaps nearly always) self-important individuals who think they have something vital to say. Most of us who are self-important and think we have something vital to say resent that. It’s just that kind of attitude that divides our nation today. The anti-bloggers need to be quarantined for a long time. When my blog opines on an important topic, go to the bank on it. Hit your knees every night and thank Almighty God for the bloggers in your life.

Note that I waited until after the election to announce my new blog. The last thing in the world I wanted to do was to distract attention from the candidates and their blogs. So I graciously stepped aside. With that behind us, readers can now turn their full attention to what I have to say. It’s all been fact-checked.

So, let’s all have some fun together, maybe even a few laughs along the way. Set aside a few minutes every week to stop taking yourself and our world so seriously, although we will from time-to-time take a look at a serious issue as well. The world’s a mess and we’re all struggling. Those are givens, but hope reigns eternal. God, who gave us life and water and air to breathe in the beginning, has now given us blogging as we come to the end of the world. While there is still time, make peace with a blogger. Nobody should leave this earth without doing that.

DY: In Just a Few Words is a blog that comes out when something needs to be said or every Tuesday - whichever comes first. Davis Young is a communications professional who adds 50+ years of experience and perspective to issues of the day. His emphasis in DY: In Just a Few Words will be humor (a touch of sarcasm here, a pinch of facetiousness there...). Once in a while, he will touch on something a bit more serious - but hopefully not too deep or depressing.
