We are getting there....
A steadily shrinking pandemic has at last cleared the way when a trip to the grocery store or our local wine shop is not considered seriously risky.
I am still masking up when I go to such potential super-spreader locations as a bakery or our local recreation center or anywhere that attracts lots of people. But, I am gaining confidence by the day.
At last, people are starting to travel again, and there is tremendous pent-up demand to go where they haven’t been been able to go since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. That was two years ago last week – March 11, 2020, to be exact.
For example, we have friends who are going to Costa Rica next Monday for a pretty significant length of time. Our son, a veteran globetrotter with more air miles than Carter has liver pills, is just back from a business trip to England. Zoom and email are great, but nothing beats face-to-face. And, we are returning to that. We were in Florida for the month of February. Just as Zoom beats either the phone or email, outdoor activity is way ahead of stale inside air.
So, we are getting there, and at a pretty good clip. It sure is good for my psyche to be able to say that.
But, I balance all of this with the fact two neighbors came down with COVID in the last couple of weeks. They are doing fine, but we all need to remember COVID is still out there and worthy of us remaining alert. Just yesterday we learned that China has locked down approximately 51 million people because a new surge has started there. To put this surge in perspective, they have locked these people down for less than 2,000 cases - far lower than the current U.S. caseload.
Now, it’s time for me to go have my daily COVID-preventing cocktail of various household cleaning fluids that I inject directly into my arm. Nothing like a little pop of Lysol and Clorox to keep me safe.
So far, so good.
DY: In Just a Few Words is a blog that comes out when something needs to be said or every Tuesday - whichever comes first. Davis Young is a communications professional who adds 50+ years of experience and perspective to issues of the day. His emphasis in DY: In Just a Few Words will be humor (a touch of sarcasm here, a pinch of facetiousness there...). Once in a while, he will touch on something a bit more serious - but hopefully not too deep or depressing.

Love this! Still need to be “cautious” and continue “Covid cocktail hour”!
