Do your prefer giving or receiving? Be honest...
It’s that most wonderful time of the year when we let each other know what we really want you to go out and buy for us - AKA our annual Christmas lists. I get calls, emails, texts and even just plain old snail mail every day asking what I want. And that’s just from Karen.
Compiling a Christmas list is by definition a selfish exercise. It’s all about what I Want. With that in mind, it’s time to share my 2021 I Want list. In honor of The 12 Days of Christmas, I have broken my list down into a dozen things I would love to receive on Saturday. Admittedly, some of these wants will be easier to fill than others. A few may seem impossible, but a guy can dream.
I Want to be 12 years old again. That doesn’t cost any money. It just takes a routine Christmas miracle.
Now that I’m going to relive my previously misspent youth, I Want a new engine for my Lionel train set – one that blows smoke and can set a good example for staying on track in life.
I Want everyone to stop saying it’s more blessed to give than to receive when we all know that - while giving gifts can be amazing - we live to tear open the gifts with OUR names on them.
I Want each of us to celebrate the success of someone else. That's when we’ll know we are successful.
I Want everyone to have at least one belly laugh a day that reminds us of a bowl full of jelly.
And, while we are on the subject of laughing, I Want each of us to spend time laughing at ourselves because we really are pretty ridiculous when you think about it.
I Want to never again be tempted to write a blog that mentions pork chops.
I Want everyone to not only be confident - but to be certain - the Browns will go to the Super Bowl in 2022. You heard it here first.
And speaking of football, I Want a recount from the Ohio State – Michigan game. I know there were OSU scores that were never counted. Ohio State won that game.
I Want to be able to wipe away the memory of a round of 2021 golf when I actually - truly, on my honor - took 52 putts. If you have a gift that does away with the yips, I’d be very appreciative.
I Want the FedEX guy (aka Santa Claus) to make lots of stops at your house in the next couple of weeks. But only for things you don’t have to pay for in January.
I Want all my readers to have a wonderful Holiday Season and for my two editors (aka Tracy and Karen) to know they make these blogs better than they could ever be without their second set of eyes and pushback.
For the 12 Days of Christmas, that’s my I Want list.
P.S. My birthday list will follow in early Spring. Save up.
DY: In Just a Few Words is a blog that comes out when something needs to be said or every Tuesday - whichever comes first. Davis Young is a communications professional who adds 50+ years of experience and perspective to issues of the day. His emphasis in DY: In Just a Few Words will be humor (a touch of sarcasm here, a pinch of facetiousness there...). Once in a while, he will touch on something a bit more serious - but hopefully not too deep or depressing.

52 putts for 9 holes??? That’s atrocious DY! Time for that pesky eye exam!
Too good! Just want to know if you broke 100 on the golf course that day? 😎
